Start here: How to read #MiningIsHuman
A quick guide to this series on Substack
MiningIsHuman is a series about the history of mining in southern Africa — its geology, capital, labour, infrastructure, decisions and consequences across time.
The stories are published in two forms.
Cuts
Short pieces, around 500 words, 3000 characters.
Published weekly on Thursdays on LinkedIn.
A single moment, place, decision or person.
Seams
Longer pieces.
Published when a series arc closes.
They draw together the Cuts into something continuous.
Cuts are where the story is exposed.
Seams are where it runs.
Mining is always human.
